Bois de Boulogne is enormous, but this particular corner gives dog owners something unusually practical: a spacious freedom area with simple agility equipment, room to play, woodland paths and the option to continue toward the water. It feels far removed from central Paris, yet it is accessible by Metro Line 10 and easy to reach by car.
This guide is based on repeated local visits to the area around Route de Sèvres à Neuilly, near Hippodrome ParisLongchamp. Conditions and signs can change, so always check the information posted at the entrance when you arrive.

Why This Dog Area Is Worth Visiting
The open grass gives dogs room to run, sniff and interact without the feeling of a small city dog park. Wooden obstacles and agility-style structures add variety: dogs can jump through a hoop, balance over logs and explore low wooden features at their own pace.
- Large open space for running and recall practice
- Simple wooden agility obstacles
- Usually enough room to play alone or meet other dogs
- Woodland paths for a longer walk
- Water point for dogs during the milder months
- A small nearby café for coffee, snacks and refreshments

Is It Fenced? Can Dogs Be Off Leash?
The space is very large and not enclosed. It is suitable only for dogs whose recall and behaviour are reliable around unfamiliar dogs, runners, cyclists and horses.
The City of Paris provides designated dog freedom areas in Bois de Boulogne where dogs may exercise without a leash. These areas are identified by signs at their entrances. Do not assume that the whole woodland is an off-leash zone: follow the signs and put the leash back on whenever you leave the designated area.
Owners must pick up after their dogs. Category 2 dogs must be muzzled, and Category 1 dogs are prohibited from the freedom areas under the published City of Paris rules.
How to Get There
By Metro
- Boulogne–Jean Jaurès, Metro Line 10: approximately 1.1 km or 15 minutes on foot to the pinned entrance, according to Google Maps.
- Boulogne–Pont de Saint-Cloud, Metro Line 10: approximately 1.6 km or 22 minutes on foot.
Boulogne–Jean Jaurès is normally the simplest metro option. The final approach is mostly flat, but you are walking toward a woodland edge rather than a formal city-park gate, so keep the map pin open on your phone.
By Car
Parking is usually straightforward on the surrounding streets. Availability can still vary with sports events, weekends and busy periods around ParisLongchamp, so allow extra time when a major event is taking place.

Walking to Caverne de la Cascade
For a longer outing, continue to Caverne de la Cascade on Route de la Grande Cascade. Google Maps estimates about 1.7 km and 23 minutes on foot from the pinned agility area, mainly via Route de Sèvres à Neuilly and Chemin des Réservoirs. The destination and surrounding waterside paths turn a short play session into a fuller woodland walk.
Road-crossing warning: Google Maps marks the first section of Route de Sèvres à Neuilly as a partially restricted-use road. Put your dog on the leash before leaving the play area and keep the leash attached anywhere vehicles may pass. Do not release your dog again unless you are clearly inside a signed freedom zone and safely away from traffic.
Dogs are often seen entering the water near the cascade, and during our visits we have not observed a problem. However, this is not a supervised dog-swimming facility. Check the bank, water condition and posted notices, never allow a dog onto winter ice, and only allow swimming if your dog has reliable recall and can exit the water safely.

Important Safety Notes
Horses
Horse riders occasionally use nearby woodland routes. Call your dog back early, attach the leash and give the horse plenty of space. Even a friendly dog can frighten a horse by running toward it or barking.
Runners and Cyclists
The paths are shared. Runners and cyclists may appear quickly, so keep your dog close at bends and places with limited visibility. A dog should not chase, block or jump toward other path users.
Avoid Saturday Lunchtime
Saturday around midday is usually the least comfortable time to visit because people gather to play football beside the dog area. At other times the space is generally calmer and easier to use.

Water Is Seasonal
A dog water point is normally available, but the pipes are shut during very cold winter periods to prevent freezing. Bring your own water and a collapsible bowl in winter, during hot weather or whenever the fountain may be unavailable.

Best Time to Visit
Weekday mornings are ideal for a relaxed visit. There is often enough activity for a social dog to find a playmate, while quieter dogs can usually create distance in the open space. Early visits are also better in warm weather and reduce conflicts with runners, cyclists and weekend gatherings.
What to Bring
- A normal leash for roads, horses and busy paths
- A long line if recall is not completely reliable
- Water and a travel bowl
- Waste bags
- A towel if your dog may swim
- High-value treats for recall around distractions
Is This Spot Right for Your Dog?
This area works best for confident, controllable dogs that enjoy open space and can disengage from play when asked. It is not the safest choice for a dog that runs toward traffic, chases bicycles or horses, becomes overwhelmed by unfamiliar dogs, or needs a fully fenced enclosure.
